MISSIONS MOMENT with
Creig and Sherry Marlowe
From May 8-15 we were in,
Riga, Latvia, where Creig again (since 2018) taught OT Poetic & Wisdom
Books at the Latvian Biblical Centre. Approximately 100 students are enrolled
at LBC in various programs (undergrad or grad). They are Latvian- or Russian-speaking.
I enjoy their boldness to ask hard questions. My lectures are simultaneously
translated into both languages, although some follow the (even
Southern-accented) English. LBC is an accredited interdenominational
institution and seeks to build bridges between the churches. Graduates use
their biblical training mostly for church ministry and evangelism if not for a
stepping stone to university programs. They have recently started a family
ministry program which has proven quite popular.
PRAISE that 1) the zoom
lectures to India are now complete. 2) Creig is about a third of the way
through his OT Introduction course in Ethiopia. So far technology has been
cooperative. PRAY that the Gospel will
spread in Latvia. Many of the young adults are looking for opportunities
outside the country, leaving many businesses and the church struggling
economically.
